Lot Essay

A family tradition suggests that Admiral William Dickson used this desk on board ship.
Very similar desks were sold from the Walter P. Chrysler collection at Parke Bernet, New York, 29 April 1960, lot 143 and also anonymously at Christie's, New York, 28 March 1981, lot 208
