CANNON, Richard. HISTORICAL RECORDS OF THE BRITISH ARMY. Series of official regimental histories, all, except where stated, in original cloth, lettered in gilt on spine and upper cover, some with gilt arms, 8° (approx. 220 x 140mm.). All sold not subject to return. There were two issues of most of the Records, the text being the same printing, but the original issues have coloured lithographs mostly by G.E. Madeley, whereas the later issues, which were produced by or for H.M. Stationery Office, have unsigned wood-engraved variants of the originals. Later editions of the first issue occasionally have coloured lithographs with the captions altered, here all those with lithographs are described as first issue, and those with wood-engravings second issue. See Ogilby Trust Index to British Military Costume Prints 1500-1914 157 (the numbers in square brackets below indicate the Index numbers).
