2 volumes, 4° (257 x 205mm.), half-titles, 15 engraved maps and plans, 11 folding, folding Plan of the Action at Bunkers Hill with overslip, (2 text leaves in volume I with marginal tears just affecting text neatly repaired; a few minor tears at plate folds). Contemporary tree calf, (neatly rebacked preserving original gilt backstrips with red and green morocco labels). Armorial bookplate of F.N.C. Mundy of Markeaton.
FIRST EDITION. Stedman's History of the Revolution is generally considered the best contemporary account written from the British side. He served under Sir William Howe, was twice taken prisoner and sentenced to be hanged as a rebel, but on each occasion managed to escape, and was also severely wounded twice. It is dedicated to his former Commander in Chief Lord Rawdon, Earl of Moira. Sabin 91057; Howes 914. (2)
