Contemporary speckled calf, spines gilt (head and foot of spines and corners scuffed; joints weak). Provenance: gilt Garter crest on spines of Henry, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch and engraved library label (sold Christie's 8.4.87 (lot 122) property of Lord Montague of Beaulieu, removed from Palace House).
FIRST EDITION of Duhamel's earliest work on trees and the most important work on the subject to appear since the publication of Evelyn's Sylva in 1664.
