FIRST EDITION containing the correct number of small, finely coloured illustrations as listed in the index. The American ornithologist J.J. Audubon was a friend of the Rathbones, visiting their home, Green Bank near Liverpool, on many occasions during the 1820s. Audubon records on October 2nd 1826 being asked by Mrs. Rathbone for a thumbnail sketch of the Wild Turkey, which he duly provided in twenty-three minutes. Unfortunately the sketch was never included in Mrs. Rathbone's work. Nissen IVB 756 and Mullens & Swann 485 both in error call for 22 plates.
