Lot Essay

It has been suggested that the large building to the left of our picture is the Granville Hotel, Ramsgate, designed by E.W. Pugin and completed in 1874. Although not found in Wimperis's list of works, the watercolour would appear to be an unexecuted project for remodelling the seafront at Ramsgate in front of the hotel.

We are grateful to Dr. John Harris for his help in preparing this entry.
