Lot Essay

Boldre Hill Lodge in the New Forest, Hampshire was built by John 1st Earl De La Warr (1693-1766) between 1732 and 1747. Generally occupied by a master keeper it was the hunting lodge of the Earls De La Warr until it was demolished in 1833. A larger view of the lodge from the Park, also signed and dated 1769, was sold at Sotheby's 6 July 1983, lot 253 (5,500)
