Forced to abandon it when the Germans occupied France, Violet returned there at the end of the war. The signatures in her Visitors Book recall her famous hospitality there, her wit and accomplishments, and gift for friendship. The view of St. Loup is by a post-war society portrait painter of members of the European aristocracy and many prominent Americans. (2)
