This very detailed, highly worked and accomplished engraving stands as a significant achievement for an engraver of relatively tender years. Sadeler proudly attests to this fact in his address, 'Aetatis suae 19'. The work is presumably a direct copy in the same sense of Cornelis Cort's earlier and larger engraving of 1571 (Holl. 26), a near contemporary depiction of Federico Zuccaro's fresco for the church of S. Maria Annunziata on which Zuccaro was working as early as 1566. The church and Zuccaro's fresco were destroyed in 1626 to make room for a new church dedicated to S. Ignazio.
