Bartsch's attribution of the principal version of this subject to Giorgio Ghisi is no longer accepted. Despite attributions to Georg Pencz and Giovanni Battista Scultori its authorship remains uncertain. Equally uncertain remains the attribution for this other extraordinary version. A somewhat freer and less intense interpretation was executed by Antonio Fantuzzi (Zerner AF 12)
