Lot Essay

Moore authorised the casting of a small version of this bronze (Foundation archive no. 186G) from a unique lead piece executed in 1938. According to the Moore Foundation, he was so pleased with this edition that he decided to make a larger version, of which the current bronze is an example (Henry Moore Foundation archive no. 186H).
To be included in the revised edition of volume 1 of Henry Moore, Sculpture and Drawings, 1921-1948 currently being prepared by the Henry Moore Foundation.
