Lot Essay

Guys was sent to cover the Crimean War by the Illustrated London News in 1853. He went first to Constantinople, and then along the Danube and to Greece. He arrived in Crimea in October 1854 and stayed three months. He returned from January to April 1855, and then from June to July. He executed there numerous annotated drawings that he sent to London to be engraved.
