Constable visited Englefield House, Berkshire, the seat of Richard Benyon de Beauvoir, in August 1832, in connection with the commission to paint the picture of the house exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1833, no. 34 (see G. Reynolds, op.cit, pp. 245-6, no. 33.1, pl. 864). Other drawings executed during the visit are dated 24 and 25 August (see Reynolds, op.cit., pp. 238-9, nos. 32.23-28).
