The rectangular twin-flap top above eight ring-turned legs joined by conforming stretchers, on bun feet, restorations, the underside inscribed in chalk 'M4', the hinges stamped 'R.F.'

Lot Essay

In 1768, Thomas Chippendale (d. 1779) supplied a 'neat Mahogany 8 leg Table of fine wood £2.2.0' to Sir Edward Knatchbull, Bt. for Mersham Le Hatch, Kent. The table which is closely related to the present lot, is illustrated in C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. II, fig. 410.
