Henschke, Hill of Grace, Shiraz--Vintage 1987
Adelaide Hills, South Australia
It is largely on the strength of the famous "Hill of Grace" vineyard that the reputation of the Keyneton-based Henschke has grown to its present level. Produced entirely from the native shiraz grape from vines, known to be well over one hundred years old, taken to Australia from pre-phylloxera Europe by the early German settlers. The fruit is hand-picked and the wine aged in new and seasoned French and American oak. The wine is of immense weight and has potential for great longevity.

Langtons of Melbourne, who hold the principal Australian auctions in association with Christie's, have recently established an informal 'Classification of Distinguished Australian Wines' in which Hill of Grace ranks as "Outstanding (B)", second only to Grange Hermitage
