Of narrow rectangular form, the sides hung with carved fruit, flowers and foliage, with steel register plate engraved 'Tacchi Bedford' surmounted by a C-scroll and acanthus cresting, the reservoir with a later reeded and acanthus-carved domed cover, restorations, lacking the upper part of the cresting

A. Tacchi of Bedford is mentioned in the 'List of Makers and Retailers' in N. Goodison, English Barometers 1680-1890, Woodbridge, rev.ed., 1977, p. 363. A similar barometer from the Mulliner Collection is illustrated in P. Macquoid and R. Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, London, rev.ed., 1954, vol. I, p. 33, fig. 21, and another was sold from the collection of the late Mrs. M. Dalton, in these Rooms, 14 November 1991, lot 21.
