INDENTThe letter S and nail on the reverse stands for 'esclavo' or slave (clavo being the Spanish word for nail) and indicates that the wearer of the pendant was a member of one of the many religious bodies in Spain during the 17th Century
For a similar pendant with the same inscription cf. Christie's Geneva 15 November, 1988, lot 109
