Unclaimed property recovered from the
KNIGHTSBRIDGE SAFE DEPOSIT CENTRE ROBBERY
Sold by Order of the Official Receiver
In July 1987, Valerio Viccei led his gang of five armed robbers into the Knightsbridge Safe Deposit Centre, emerging two hours later with approximately 60 million pounds worth of jewellery, unmounted diamonds, bank notes and cocaine. It was the biggest robbery in history, meticulously planned with the collusion of the manager.
Italian born Viccei was wanted in his home country for over forty armed robberies and five further armed robberies in England. It was his flamboyancy that led to his eventual arrest. While waiting for an export licence to take his Ferrari Testarossa to South America he was spotted driving round Marble Arch and forceably apprehended. He is now serving 22 years imprisonment.
