Weight of ruby 2.80 carats
Provenance
The ruby belonged to King Thibaw (1878-1885) of Burma and was given to Caleb Lewis, joint successor to John Howard Gwyther as Chief Manager of the Chartered Bank. John Howard Gwyther, the vendor's great grandfather was Chairman of the Chartered Bank from 1896-1904 and the ruby was presented uncut to his daughter, the vendor's grandmother.
