Uttori is the method of covering the decoration of the base with gold or silver sheet. A pocket is cut in the metal and into this the edge of the gold sheet is inserted, the pocket is then hammered shut, thereby holding the metal fast.
Yakitsuke visually appears similar to uttori as they both use slightly thick gold or silver sheet. However, the metal is generally applied with heat, wax or mercury.
