The circular shakudo nanako plate depicting Kasugano with deer and maple leaves carved in takabori and decorated in gold shakudo and iroe takazogan, square mimi; and the circular iron migaki-ji plate depicting mon of bamboo among karakusa and flowers in shinchu hirazogan, square mimi, with a wood box

In the Nara city of Kasuga there is an area which includes the Kasugataisha. The Kasugataisha was built by the Emperor Shotoku (764-770) and was the guardian shrine of the Fujiwara family. Deer were brought from Kashima jingu and were treated as holy animals with many laws to protect them. Deer among maple in Kasuga park, Nara is a popular subject among the literati.
