Lot Essay

Although in the style of Hirata Hikozo and Kanshiro, the unusual and strong treatment of the waves and chidori have a provincial if not independent feeling and is almost certainly the work of Misumi Koji. A similar piece is illustrated in Tokyo National Museum catalogue, (Tokyo, 1797), no. 267.
