The signature Nakahara Yukihisa was the artist's earliest name. After becoming head of the family he changed his name to Yukitomi in the 9th year of Meiwa (1772), and became master metalworker to the Mori family. Fortunately, his tsuba were very popular in Edo during his lifetime. This was probably due to the fact that he used challenging techniques including hirazogan, takabori, itosukashi and chuya techniques previously unheard of in Choshu.
