The dished mokkogata amida yasurime-ji plate with four bonji characters carved in thin nikubori and kebori, rounded mimi, signed Soshu Odawara, Saotome Iesada, late Edo period (19th Century); and the large iron sumikiri square plate depicting Fudo Myo-o in a waterfall in katakiribori and usunikubori, the reverse with bonji in gold zogan, dote mimi, signed Iwamoto Kansai and kao, late Meiji/early Taisho period (late 19th/early 20th century), both with a wood box

Lot Essay

The four bonji on the first piece read from the top ka [Jizo], mid left un [Nyorai], mid right kahn [Fudo Myo-o] and the bottom sa [Kanzenon bosatsu] in very skilful usunikubori. In the Edo period there were more than two Iesada.
