Lot Essay

This is one of the artists's most important works, painted in Marakesh which she visited between 1927-1932. She was part of a small group of artists who believed in sexual liberation; her husband Axel died attempting a sex change. During World War II she made a living selling her pictures, but as her works fell out of favour, she worked as a scenographer for Mr. J.P. Jackson, a decorator in Copenhagen
