The Iwamoto were a powerful family within the Yokoya line. The founder Chubei was from Aizu and trained in the Yokoya tradition. As no work exists bearing his signature it is possible he was a preparatory worker. Iwamoto Konkan was born in 1744 and between 1764 and 1772 he became a student of Ryokan. He was an accomplished painter and poet who was born and grew up in Edo, which clearly influenced his work. He died in 1801 at the age of 58.
