The presentation engraved to the reverse of this watch states "From the Officers of the Regiment in testimony of their esteem and regards as Commanding Officer, Brother, Soldier and Friend to Colonel Francis James Scott Dunbartonshire Fencibles, New Geneva, 12th May 1799." The story of New Geneva, a city to be founded on the bank of the Suir near Waterford in Eire to accommodate the refugees from Geneva, is told in an article accompanying this lot by Hubert Butler "New Geneva in Waterford".
