Lot Essay

Masaoki was a student of Otsuki Mitsuoki and sometimes used his master's character "oki". This design is probably after a Kyoto school painting as Otsuki Mitsuoki was greatly influenced by Ganku and Nagasawa Rosetsu.

Masaoki made many fuchi-kashira and menuki. He favoured takabori and used katakiri, nikubori ji-sukashi and sukidashi takabori, producing masterful and solid work.
