The shakudo nanako plate depicting horses in shakudo and gilt takazogan, details in iroe, encased in shakudo and gilt case, signed Sano Naoyoshi and kao, late Edo period (late 18th/early 19th century), gilt rubbed; and a shakudo plate depicting Jurojin and a deer in usunikubori, kebori, silver and shakudo takazogan, details in gilt, with signature Ikkeisha Nobuyoshi, late Edo period (19th century) (2)

Lot Essay

Sano Naoyoshi was a student of Nakamura Naonori. He became a metalworker to Akimoto Tajima no kami of the Yamagata clan. The Kikugawa school is of the Yokoya Yanagawa line. He trained his son Naoteru and Naonobu, Ishiguro Masayoshi (see lot no. 271), Michiyoshi and contributed greatly to the prosperity of the school
