Six figures from the Series Nations du Levant. These were inspired by engravings by Jacques Le Hay "Receuil des cent éstampe représentant les différentes nations du Lévant" published in Paris in 1714 and commissioned by Charles de Ferriol, the French Ambassador to the Sublime Porte. Kändler, he in fur-lined white jacket, turquoise tunic, pale-pink breeches and yellow boots, holding his fur-lined cap in his left hand, she in ermine-lined purple cape, yellow bodice and long pleated dress with entwined garlands of indianische Blumen fronted with two pink panels with gilt scrolling foliage, both standing on circular rockwork bases applied with coloured flowers (he with restoration to right arm and hand and some gilt buttons, retouching to enamels on tunic, she with restoration to right side of cape and right hand, some minor chipping to extremities and edge of her base), blue crossed swords marks at back, circa 1745
