Moulmein
cover An 1856 entire to Port Elizabeth, South Africa, bearing a 2 anna and two 1 anna die I tied by the "B/127" obliterator, with Mauritius transit and numerous backstamps including Moulmein in red and black, Calcutta in red and black and a superb strike of the Port Elizabeth arrival in red dated "AP 15 1857". It appears, from these numerous dated backstamps and the endorsement "Retd for Postage", that the cover arrived in Calcutta only bearing the 2 anna green and was returned to Moulmein where the two 1 anna adhesives were applied for the correct rate and that it was then resent to Calcutta for transmission onwards to Port Elizabeth. Cover with vertical crease, clear of stamps, ending in a small tear. A wonderful cover full of character.
