Lot Essay

The relationship between Alfred and Robert Tidey is uncertain. Alfred married Justina Campbell in 1855 and had three sons. Their portrait was painted by their uncle, Henry F. Tidey (1813-1872), and exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, 1861, no. 910.
