Lot Essay

Archdule Karl of Austria (1771-1847), later Duke of Teschen, the third son of the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II. He was Commander of the Austrian forces against Napoloen whom he defeated at the Battle of Aspern.

This miniature can be dated to between 1801-1804 when the Archduke was a member of the Order of the Teutonic Knights
