Lot Essay

The identification of this family is open to question. The father wears the blue sash of the St. Esprit and the lady dressed in green to his left the Star Cross Order Badge. It has been suggested that it may portray the family of Duke Ferdinand of Bourbon-Palma (1751-1802), husband of Archduchess Maria-Amalia, or Duke Hercules III of Modena (1727-1803) with his grand-children; but we are unable to substantiate this.
