Lot Essay

Designed in the 19th Century antique manner, incorporating Renaissance features with figures of a recumbent Chronos accompanied by putti, emblematic of the Seasons, in the Louis XIV style of André-Charles Boulle (d. 1732). Such neo-baroque clocks were designed by Albert Carrier-Belleuse in the mid-19th Century (See H. Ottomeyer, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, vol. 1, 1986, no. 6.2.2)
