Lot Essay

This decorative mid-19th century drawing-room display-cabinet is embellished with ormolu, in the French manner, and designed to display rich marquetry veneer that was executed in the Netherlands in the late 17th century. The panel, displayed vertically, originally formed the door of a cabinet-on-stand, corresponding to one at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (Illustrated J. van Herck, Il Mobile Fiammingo, Milan 1972, fig 99.).
