An ivory lacquered fan and fitted box
Late 19th Century
Decorated in gold, silver and iroe hiramakie and takamakie, gold togidashi, kirikane and kimpun with coral and aogai inlays, with two children beside a flowering plum tree walking towards a fenced house, birds flying above, the reverse with a cricket cage, a fan and a spray of flowers and foliage, an ivory ojime, crack and one inlay missing; the lacquer box decorated in iroe hiramakie with a spray of a flower and an insect on a roironuri ground, slight dents and chips, with letter dated 31 August 1883, sent from Yokohama to Prado, Spain
