Originates from Hamburg, Germany. It is though to have been derived from birds imported from Holland, Denmark, the Middle East and from crosses with the Ancient Tumbler and the Reinauger Tumbler. The Hamburg type has been established for over a century. The breed is mentioned in print since 1884
