1961 DAIMLER MAJESTIC FOUR DOOR COUPE
Registration No. KVS 944 (UK)
Chassis No. 99668
Engine No. 92379
Maroon with red trim.
Engine: six cylinder, overhead valve, 3,794cc, 147bhp at 4,400rpm; Gearbox: automatic; Brakes: discs all round; Suspension: front, independent coil; rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs. Right hand drive.
Immediately after the second world war, British car manufacturers began production of civilian vehicles with the same, or only slightly modified designs that they used in the 1930s. For years they ran happily along on technical knowledge gained in previous decades, feeding their products to the eagerly waiting and patient British public, who had been deprived of new transport for some eight years.
This situation lasted until the late 1950s. Then with a thud the bottom began to drop out of the market with European cars flooding in and so the British car manufacturers had to do some re-thinking.
In 1958 the Daimler Majestic was launched with automatic transmission and disc brakes as standard equipment. It was based on the earlier 104 saloon structure of 1955, but with revised full-width wing treatment behind the centre pillar.
This car is reported to be in fine condition. A factory reconditioned engine was fitted in 1966, and has been attended to recently by its present owner. The engine is sound and there is a current MoT certificate.
