A SPANISH CUP-HILT RAPIER with tapering blade of flattened diamond section with narrow fuller on each side at the forte stamped with letters, recessed ricasso stamped 'Caino' on each face, iron cup (crushed and incomplete) pierced and engraved with running foliage inhabited by birds, long slender quillons and knuckle-guard with button terminals, globular pommel (damaged) pierced and engraved en suite with the cup, and leather-covered wooden grip set with notched longitudinal iron strips, late 17th Century; and another, composite, with wide blade (tip missing) of flattened hexagonal section with fuller on each side at the forte stamped 'De Tomas' and 'De Aiala', the cup decorated with alternate pierced and chased panels of foliage and scrollwork, slender quillons, arms, knuckle-guard, globular pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip, mid-17th Century
