A GERMAN SPORTING CROSSBOW with robust steel bow retained by its original cords, string of twisted cords, angular wooden tiller swelling towards the middle (slight damage and worming overall), the top and bottom overlaid with panels of light coloured horn bordered by darker horn, the sides inlaid with stylised horn foliage, bone nut and horn bolt-clip (the latter incomplete), steel loop, lugs for cranequin, bar trigger, and folding set trigger, together with an earlier cranequin, with leather-covered cord loop (damaged), the wheel-case with central bar, struck with a maker's mark, a cockerel over a star in a brass-lined shield, ratchet bar engraved with the date, and turned wooden crank handle (belt hook missing), the crossbow early 17th Century, the cranequin dated 1537
