A SAXON WHEEL-LOCK SPORTING RIFLE with dated swamped octagonal sighted barrel (back-sight missing) rifled with eight shallow grooves, grooved at the breech, and struck with initials HS (Neue Støckel 3099) for Hans Stockmann of Dresden, plain flat lock with domed brass cover etched with foliated scrollwork and retaining some gilding, full stock profusely inlaid with staghorn plaques mostly pierced and engraved with foliage, scrolls, strapwork, animals, standing figures, birds and snails, all within horn lines, the background enriched with staghorn scrolls and pellets, on the dated cheek-piece the figure of Neptune in his chariot drawn by sea horses (engraving worn, some panels replaced), engraved horn fore-end cap and ramrod-pipe, fluted iron trigger-guard, set trigger (incomplete), and later horn-tipped ramrod, dated 1605
