Designed in the Louis XVI 'antique' manner, this form of settee, with bergere arms, tablet-enriched frame and tapering columnar legs with palm-capped reeds, relates to patterns for 'cabriole chairs' and sofas published in A. Hepplewhite & Co., Cabinet-maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788, pls. 10 & 24.
