The Property of The late H.J.JOEL, Esq., Removed from THE STUD HOUSE, CHILDWICKBURY, HERTS Sold by Order of the Executors (Lots 160-216) Mr Joel moved to the Stud House at Childwickbury prior to the sale of the main house and the dispersal of that part of his superb collections in Christie's house sale of May 1978. The contents of his Grosvenor Square flat were sold in these Rooms in April 1980. Among the pictures that remained with him at The Stud House were the three Canalettos that were sold in these Rooms in July 1992 for a total of almost 2.5 million.

Designed in the George II picturesque manner, the flowered frame's acanthus-scrolled pediment, asymmetrical cartouches, and scrolled clasps with scalloped and fretted enrichments accompanied by reeds, relate to French ornament published by Abraham Swan in The British Architect, 1745 and by the carver Matthias Lock in Six Sconces, 1744
