Lord Francis Godolphin Osborne was born on 18 October 1777, the second son of Francis Godolphin Osborne, 5th Duke of Leeds, and his wife Amelia, daughter of Robert d'Arcy, Earl of Holdernesse. He was created Baron Godolphin on 14 May 1837. He married the Hon. Elizabeth Charlotte Eden, third daughter of William Eden, 1st Lord Auckland, on 30 March 1800. They had several children and their eldest son, George Godolphin, 2nd Baron Godolphin, succeeded as 8th Duke of Leeds in 1859. Lord Godolphin died on 15 February 1850.
