This and the following lot come from an album assembled by Marchese del Carpio, who was appointed Viceroy of Naples in 1682, and retained that office until his death in 1687. A view of the Arena at Pozzuoli from the same point, with the same provenance as this and the following drawing (Christie's, 20 March 1973, lot 29, illustrated), is now in the Metropolitan Museum, J. Bean, op. cit., no. 163
