Lot Essay

This drawing is a copy after the painting now attributed to Govaert Flinck in the Wallace Collection. It has been suggested that it could be a work by Claes Moeyaert. The painting was probably a copy done in Rembrandt's workshop after a lost grisaille (perhaps dating from 1632) for his etching of the same subject of 1633
