The edge of the bezel is inscribed in foliate kufic: ''izz wa iqbal wa dawla li sa[hibihi]', and the underside 'al-mulk lillahi'.

This ring has several of the well-known characteristics of the Mamluk ring. However, the usual claws mounted on the edge of the bezel to secure the seal stone are here replaced by paired studs which are merely decorative. The bezel is also somewhat lower than is often found, with the usual ring shoulders partly transformed into anmial heads, such as are found from Iran of the same period. The decoration in niello on the shoulders is similar to that on a gold ring sold in these rooms, 10 October 1989 lot 453
