Printed title to volume one, text in French and English, engraved general title and 83 plates, including tail-piece (lacking title to the second volume); together with a second set of the same work bound in two volumes, 84 engraved plates ALL IN PROOF STATES before letters and figurative detail (some trimmed and mounted on paper, two loosely inserted, text to the second volume lacking, the plates interleaved with blanks). Together 4 volumes. Uniform contemporary russia (edges lightly rubbed, several joints cracked). Provenance: Joseph Farrington (signatures on two front free endpapers); Frances Mary Richardson Currer (armorial bookplate).
An interesting Subscriber's copy of Hearne's popular work. Joseph Farrington, antiquary and publisher, author of Views in Cumberland and the the Lakes, is listed in the subscribers list as receiving 4 volumes. As a friend and fellow traveller of the author he received various proof pulls of the plates in addition to his standard copy.
