A pair of terrestrial and celestial pocket globes, mounted for presentation, diameter 3 inches (75mm.). Each globe with 12 hand-coloured engraved gores over a plaster base, the terrestrial with title set in the North pacific, showing the tracks of Cook's second and third voyages, the celestial with the constellation figures carefully coloured, lightly varnished. Metal pinions, terrestrial with brass hour cap, brass meridian circles, the terrestrial graduated (the celestial restored). The two globes each set vertically in individual imitation fishskin-covered cases, with engraved horizon circles (the celestial horizon circle a neat manuscript copy). The opposite interiors of each case lined with hand-coloured engraved gores depicting the phases of the moon(terrestrial) and planets(celestial), metal clasps.

A rare pair of Newton pocket globes with their original display cases, the ensemble in fine condition.
